VINCE CLARKE & MARTYN WARE, SPECTRUM PURSUIT VEHICLE
from Q magazine August 2001

Erasure/Heaven 17 stalwarts trade synth-pop and diamante penis gords for electronic soundscapes.

Don't be misled by the kitsch title with its cognoscenti reference to Captain Scarlet. VINCE CLARKE and MARTYN WARE may have mined rich seams of pop nostalgia and electro-bubblegum in their pasts, but this new venture is altogether more cerebral. SPECTRUM PURSUIT VEHICLE is 70 odd minutes of ambient electronica, originally composed for a two hour installation performance at the London Roundhouse last February. Nothing silly about the music though, which is among the best in this genre for some time. Luxuriant and soothing but never bland, stately but never pompous, this is warmly recommended for fans of anyone from The Orb to Eno's Music For Airports.
